Algarrobo, Chile

Hello again! I had some difficulty connecting to the internet at my host family's home but now the problem has been solved! If anyone has skype name, please add me and then we can talk! My screen name is ecwhite11. Last Wednesday, the EAP (Education Abroad Program) took all of us to Algarrobo, a town on the coast, for our orientation. On Thursday, we explored the area and discovered that the world's largest sea water swimming pool was located just up the road from our hotel. The pool is 1,000 yards long and holds 66 million gallons of water and is part of an enormous apartment complex. Unfortunately, we could only observe the pool from the outside because the security guard would not let us through. Here is the link to a website to see pictures and read more information about the pool....it really is incredible!

First Days in Santiago

Hola!

I arrived in Chile around 8:00am on Saturday morning and from the airport, a group of UC students and I went to the Hostel Internacional de Santiago. After locking up our bags at the hostel, we walked around Santiago for a few hours exploring our new home. Hotdogs are the major food to buy here in Santiago, you get a “Hotdoggi” for about $0.50. There are stray dogs everywhere and last night after dinner, I saw a dog stop at a corner, wait for the light to turn green and then proceed across the street in the crosswalk. Today we met with our host families and my host family is very nice. Today while walking down the street with my host family mom and her cousin who is also a host family mom for a girl from UCLA, we passed by a group of school kids. Quite a few of them were smoking and apparently, it is quite normal here for kids at an early age to smoke. Santiago has a metro system similar to San Francisco and a reliable bus system as well.
